It’s Hip to be Immature

Ickle BugToday was one of “those” days so in a tribute to Garfield I’d like to say “I hate Mondays”.

One of our dogs was sucking on her paw this morning so I made a vet appointment and Em came home from work to mind Cody. The vet was really nice and checked Doops’ paws and ears out and found she had a skin infection so we’ve got anti-inflams, antibiotics and she got her yearly shots too. When we got home Em wanted to get Burg checked too, she got an appointment straight away and headed back to the vet. They took a bucket of blood from Burg and booked her in for an operation on Wednesday. We’re both a little apprehensive after losing our puppy while she was under anesthetic.

We were also waiting for Atom Ant to call with the results of the ultrasound Cody had on Saturday – we had preliminary results from the radiographer that didn’t seem so great. Atom called while I was out shopping with Cody and let us know he was sending Cody to an orthopedic surgeon for assessment – he said at worst case Cody would need a brace for 3 months or an xray at 6 months to see if she’ll need surgery. Her hip has not been growing since the last ultrasound so he wants it checked out. We’ve found getting in to a specialist here in Adelaide really hard previously, hopefully we’ll be able to get in quickly and get a positive outcome!

Our weekend was good, we had the ultrasound on Saturday morning, Cody was really well behaved and we went and saw Cody’s Aunty Theenie at her work. We also had dinner at her Yiayia and Papou’s house and celebrated Cody’s 4 month birthday with 4 mud cupcakes.

We’ve noticed Cody is getting teeth! Teeth I tell you! They started as small lumps however now they are whiter and just beneath the top of the gum.

With the 4 month birthday came the 4 month immunisations, two in one leg and one in the other. The injection sites came up quite lumpy and were sore when we accidentally touched them; Cody was also lethargic before and after them which we attributed to the formula change earlier in the week. We’ve changed back to the Anti-Reflux formula and the Poppet is much happier.

A new home

Kokojero moved in to its new home last night and I’m happy to say there is only one small bug with the new environment. I’m now running Wordpress – it’s still all new to me however I’m enjoying programming for it. Em is also moving ridingsa.com in and hopefully we’ll finally be able to leave our old hosting environment.

Home life continues to be busy; Cody turns 17 weeks old tomorrow and 4 months old on the 27th. We’re booked in for immunisations which is my least favourite – so Em comes to hold Cody :)

Cody starts swimming lessons in a few weeks! The school said we could start whenever we liked however we’re already tight for time on the weekend so we start the weekend after the Ladybug Picnic. The swim school doesn’t submerge babies until after 6 months of age so hopefully Cody’ll be used to the water by then!

This weekend we’ve got another ultrasound appointment to check Cody’s hips, I’m so much less worried this time around. We do daily stretches of her hip and I can feel the right hip is moving more freely now.

I continue to be amazed by our little girl – I still can’t believe she grew inside me and now is part of our lives. She’s got a great personality, very happy to chat to anyone who will listen (even if it is only herself), she prefers to be standing where she can see everything and knows the cue “Up” and will pull herself up from laying to standing and keep her weight on her legs. At last weigh in she was 5.77kg and 63cm! That’s 2.3kg and 13cm more than when she was born only 4 short months ago.
If she continues to grow that quickly, she’ll be taller than Em before she is 3… I’m too easily amused.

No pictures today, I need to pull my finger out and get uploading!

I’m wondering, should I enable comments?

Always, always land

“When the first baby laughed for the first time, the laugh broke into a thousand pieces and they all went skipping about, and that was the beginning of fairies”

That one of my favourite quotes from James Matthew Barrie (he wrote Peter Pan) and today I can honestly say I believe it. Cody has worked out how to do big laughs and it is the sweetest sound I’ve ever heard – it brought tears to my eyes. We were sitting on the couch with Em writing up details on the invitations we are sending out and I started singing The Pink Panther theme song to Cody and jiggling her and she started to laugh, Em got to hear it too which was awesome. We got a few videos of it and as soon as my computer runs Premier I’ll YouTube them.

This morning we had Cody’s Superheroes over for pancakes and a little bit of Wii and they gave her an early naming ceremony gift, a charm bracelet with a pooh bear on it, awwwwww. I was chuffed to learn that I make good pancakes :) Also, Superman fixed our front door and our front light – he is such a lovely poppet :)

Tonight we headed out to see our friend who was back from Sydney for the weekend to look after her 3 youngest siblings. As usual it was awesome to see her and the kids are like hanging out with friends and they took pleasure in trying to help Cody say her first word.. we’re trying for “goat” – I believe her first actual nonsensical word was “goo wah” closely followed by “en wah”.

Tomorrow morning is the JDRF walk, Em and Cody are walking 5kms, should be a nice stroll for both of them :) I’ll be cheering them on from the cafe with my caramel latte and chocolate muffin.

7, 8, 9 – 10, 11, 12..

Ladybugs; at the Ladybug Picnic!

I’m finally finding time to get together a lot of the ideas for Cody’s naming ceremony. We met with the celebrant on the weekend at the park she suggested and went over the people involved in the ceremony, what we’d need and so on. The celebrant was fantastic and an absolute pleasure to talk to, I may have even ended up with some work however more about that soon. We set a day, the first Saturday in November and we had already picked a theme – “Lady Bug Picnic” and I’ve started work on the invitations Sarah and I designed (more Sarah less I) when she was our SHG. Last night I did about 1/4 of them while Em was at netball, they are pretty cute. I sent out a text to let people a long way away know the date – to let them know we’d love to have them come, however not that we expect them to come. I was absolutely bowled over when my Dad called last night to let us know he was coming – woo hoo!

I’m ending on a very cool note today – it’s been a year since I fell pregnant with Cody. One year ago *grins*. Em and I have been talking about having another one and have already agreed on a name if we have a girl. We’re off to Canada next year and then… well… we’ll see :D

Just Like Dalmations

Today Cody turns 101 days old! I swear she woke up a different kid yesterday. She is much more vocal and communicative – she “talks” pretty much non stop when we play and sounds out when feeding which is highly amusing. She has become interested in her socks however she seems to forget how interesting they are once they are out of sight so her memory is a little goldfishish.
