1/4 Birthday Goodness

Happy 1/4 Birthday Little Bug!

Today Cody turned 3 months old and we celebrated by heading out to dinner with our SHG (Special House Guest) who also made Cody a 1/4 of a cake to celebrate.

We’ve been on the Losec all this week and it is amazing the difference in Cody. This week she has not done the ear piercing screams that we’d become used to and for the passed two days has slept quietly and most of the day – if we we’re heading off for adventures in the afternoon with SHG she’d sleep all day. And last night she slept until 4am!

Having SHG here this week has been fantastic, she’s cooked us some meals for the freezer – they are truly gourmet – for lunch yesterday we had a wild rice, tomato, falafel, beetroot leaves and toasted almonds pilaf. I’ve got lots of it in the freezer which I can’t wait to reheat! Todays lunch was Spinach, Potato and Pumpkin Seed (I think) Frittata with some Falafel on the side.

SHG is helping me make the invitations for Cody’s Lady Bug Picnic! I’m so excited, we adventured today to find suitable crafty goodness.

On a final note, we’re looking for another new web host as the one we are trialling isn’t pleasing Emsie – hopefully RidingSA and Kokojero will have a new home soon.

The Tall and Skinny

Yesterday we trekked in to see Cody’s paediatrician Atom Ant – named after he commented that Cody’s rattle, an atom and nucleus and we joked it came from the “clearance bin” with the Pluto merchandise (geek humour, does it get any better?). Cody has cracked the 5kg mark now and weighed in at 5.1kg and was 60cms. That means that 75% of little ones her age weigh more and 25% a taller. Since she is still under warranty, we got a few of the things that weren’t right last time rechecked – Cody couldn’t look to the left and just passed the test this time so we ticked that off. Atom noticed a small flat spot on her head previously, this is no longer there (helped by the fact she sleeps on her tummy). Her right hip is fine however her left hip has mild hip dysplasia which we’re going to see a physio about and have another ultrasound next month. Atom has also given us a prescription for Losec which will neutralise the acid in Cody’s tummy to help with the reflux. We’re heading back in there in a few months – actually just before Christmas!

Our very special house guest (SHG) arrives tomorrow – it’s lovely when you warn guests that they’ll definitely be getting interrupted sleep in your house and they are cool about it.

Work wise I’ve picked up another project which could get interesting and another one that I’ll look at as I should be able to knock it over pretty quickly so I’m keeping very busy. I’ve got some interesting work being passed my way in insurance which I’m also enjoying. I’m also trying to work on a new venture I’ve had ideas about for the last year and Em has just registered the domain for me with our new web host so I’ve got to do it now!

When SHG gets here tomorrow I’ll spill some exciting news – I can’t say anything yet otherwise she won’t come visit :P

12 – I’ve got 1 2

Good things come in dozens – cupcakes… I rest my case.

Cody is 12 weeks old today. Every day she surprises me and I get moments of “wow” – the smiles she gives makes me think how wonderful her world must be, it is such a privilege to share it with her.

Tomorrow we head back to the paediatrician to get Cody’s eyes, head, hips and relux checked out. I was thinking on the way home that the appointment is at 9:30 – I could have a sleep in…. no, that doesn’t happen any more. Last night was not as “good” as usual with a wake up at 2, 3, 5, 6 and 7 – maybe she is growing. I had a meeting today and really enjoyed the adult conversation and giving my brain a work out. It was strange not having Cody and almost having my “old” life back.

The Reflux Roundabout

Cody has been upset most of this weekend, she’s had trouble sleeping and has been screaming a lot. The reflux seems to be cyclic and this weekend has been particularly nasty. Thankfully Mylanta affords immediate relief and it seems the wet hiccups don’t cause her as much pain afterwards. She finally got to sleep at 3pm this afternoon and we suggestively woke for for dinner at 5:30pm. It was nice to have her wake up with smiles.

The weekend has been busy, I got to do some Christmas shopping today and we got Cody a highchair, not for Christmas that wouldn’t be cool. And more clothes for the little one – we should really stay away from the little kids clothes shoppes!

Big day for a little kid

Today we had an ultrasound on Cody’s hip at the Children’s hospital. Our day started with a shopping trip to pick out a Tonka truck for Ethan’s birthday and a quick trip to see Cody’s Nouna and pick out a bracelet from Corinne. As soon as Cody put on her new bracelet she put it in her mouth, you chew it you bought it I guess :)

We then headed to the hospital. The ultrasound went really well, the radiologist was impressed with Cody not complaining having to lay with her legs straight for a long time. Our paediatrician had sent us to check for hip dysplasia in Cody’s right hip and we were stoked to find out that Cody’s right hip looks fantastic however her left hip is a little small which we’ll get checked in 6 weeks to make sure it is catching up.

To celebrate we headed to the city for some more shopping and a late lunch. At Borders we got Cody a bunch of books including cloth versions of The Cat in the Hat and Diddy the Dinosaur. We also started Cody’s “That’s Not My…” collection with That’s Not My Pirate and a thick page version of The Very Hungry Caterpillar. I can’t remember the rest however we’re a little bit addicted to kids books, we’re going to get some more Spanish books so Em can read them to Cody (me reading Spanish, even trying to pronounce words in the “Baby’s First Words” books is very amusing). Cody also got some new clothes from Myer – in size 000, including some new big girl jarmies that fit AND that I love. Cody is getting so much bigger!

After the long day Cody was beside herself by the time we got home so Em calmed her down and let her nap on the couch – gosh they looked cute together. I love when Em is home and gets to interact with Cody when she is awake and sociable. Usually Em gets home for the “going to bed” feed when Cody can be irritable with a bit of endofdayitis.

10 weeks old

Ohhh we’ve reached 10 weeks! Hooray for the three of us :)

We’ve changed Cody’s evening formula again and bought a different type of Mylanta and together they seem to be helping a lot. Cody is still sick often – like multiple projectiles en route to the sleep doctor this morning – however she is less upset when it happens or she hiccups.

This weekend we are off to the Children’s Hospital for an ultrasound and it’s Ethan’s 2nd birthday so we’re heading to his party.

Last week I had a conversation with a lovely lady at a shoe shop who was convinced Cody was “about 2 weeks old”. Cody is a little small, she’s just below the 25% percentile at 10lb 4oz (4.66kg) though she is pretty long. When does long become tall; when they start standing?

On the weekend Cody wore the clothes she came home from the hospital in – they are still a little big.
