Life in 6 Minutes
I’m sure Cody is sponsored by Seiko – she demands food every 3 hours on the dot during the day and feeds for 6 minutes before starting to “chat” and refuses to have any more milk drinks until I heat her up a bottle.
The new formula has helped with the projectile vomiting however she still has wet hiccups that make her scream the poor little poppet. You can probably see on every photo I take of Cody she isn’t far away from a nappy to clean her up with.
Today we dropped in to the Women’s and Children’s Hospital and we’ve got an ultrasound appointment for next weekend to get Cody’s hip checked out. While we were waiting for the lift I overheard some parents talking about their little ones having chemo and the other treatments they were undergoing; it made me so thankful that Cody is healthy.
And, absolutely true to form, Cody’s eyes have sprung open and she is screaming exactly 45 minutes after going to sleep.
Reflux – Is it a type of vacuum?
Last week saw a trip to the paediatrician (who is yet to have a superhero name) who poked, prodded and perused Cody’s nooks, crannies and other bits. With such a thorough inspection it was inevitable he would find some abnormalities – so here goes.
Cody has reflux. Plain and simple. Her nickname is currently Punky Spewster and she is on an anti-reflux formula when she gets the bottled milk drink. If it doesn’t improve the paed will prescribe us a medication that stops stomach acid production.
Her right hip joint is either too shallow or she needs physio to stretch out the muscles. We have an appointment at the children’s hospital to get it looked at in a few weeks.
Looking left with her eyes isn’t happening very well with the little poppet, we’re seeing if it improves in the next few weeks before our next appointment.
Only small things and all we can do is wait until our next appointment to see how they are going.
You know she’s 2 months old today? It was 2 month ago that we were in the L&D ward just about to be told we were meeting Cody really soon via caesar.
8 Weeks On AKA Sleep – The Final Frontier
Today marks 8 weeks since Cody made her dramatic entrance into our lives. We still have some problems feeding and sleeping however things improve every day.
Yesterday was a long day – Cody stayed awake from 4am to 10am and was cranky for most of the day; or maybe it was me who was cranky. Cody gets fed at 6pm after a bath (or not) when Em gets home, she sleeps until 10pm when she gets a dreamfeed (she gets picked up out of her cot and fed and generally doesn’t even wake). She lasts until about 1 or 2am and has a feed – then wakes at 3 or 4am for another and then usually 6am for her first “day” feed. It’s a little exhausting.
Tomorrow we’re back to the Sleep Doctor, then Friday is Paul the Pead and immunisations at our family dr. It is also our God Daughters 5th birthday – Happy Birthday Small!
The Little Kid
We had our appointment at the hospital today and found out that Cody has only put on 90 grams in the last 3 weeks – not such a good thing, the WHO lists average weight gain in a 0 – 4 month old as 155 – 241 grams per week.
The midwife gave us some tips on trying to get Cody to sleep more than one 45 minute stint a day and then to have better feeds – currently she is so tired she doesn’t feed well. She also advised us to get an application in to the government run “Torrens House” to see if they can help with sleeping and feeding.
On the upside, she suggested Cody start sleeping on her belly and today I tried it. Cody slept for hours, she did have trouble going to sleep tonight though, hopefully it is just temporary and she’ll get into a better sleeping routine being on her belly. We’re very thankfully for the Angelcare Sound and Movement monitor that Cody sleeps on as we’re worried about leaving her on her belly.
Super Baby
We had an appointment with our chiro today, she is fantastic and great with Cody – Cody needed a small amount of realignment.
The chiro was surprised about how strong Cody is – she has been holding her head up since birth, can support her own weight on her legs and isn’t floppy like other babies we’ve held. Last week Cody was sitting on the change table gripping Em’s fingers when she pulled herself up into a standing position and took a step towards Em. The next day I had her on her tummy on the change table, grabbed a nappy from the hanger and turned around to find Cody had shuffled up the change table and was knocking her head on the top of the table. Oops – must keep two eyes on the little kid at all times.
Tomorrow we have an appointment with the newborn support centre as Cody isn’t feeding very well and is sick a lot. Hopefully we’ll get some good advice. Wednesday is the sleep doctor again, he was expecting Cody to be sleeping 6 hours a night by 6 weeks – we’re at about 3 hours at the moment. Must practice more sleeping!
Weekend Frivolity
We’ve had a big weekend, we did some shopping yesterday and the highlights were a new video camera and some size 2 Converse Chuck Taylors for Cody.
Cody also graduated in to “Big Girl Nappies” – briefly – the 4kg – 8kg infant nappies are still too big so we had to get another packet of newborns.
The picture is Cody and I showing off her new hoodie – we’re a little bit addicted to clothes for Cody, she was still in one of her sleepsuits yesterday so still a long way to fit most of the clothes we’ve bought for her.
Last weekend we went for our Twinkle Toes photo shoot at Anthony of Adelaide and the photo that we chose was absolutely gorgeous.
